What's new in Christopher's world?

Sleepless night

.... for me anyway.

Last night we tried putting Christopher in his bed all night. He's been co-sleeping with us since day one and lately I've been putting him in the crib for naps. However, this all-night thing was and is a new adventure.

He sacked out around 9:30 (finally) and I was doing all right, reading a book and snuggling with Pete. We had set up both baby monitors - why? Well, not because we're paranoid, trust me. One is a video/audio monitor. It's great! It can pick up the tiniest noises and also has night vision. There is a problem with it, though. It has crappy reception in certain parts of the house - like our bedroom. It pops and crackles so you have to constantly hear that while trying to listen for baby noises.

The second monitor was Sarah's. It's your plain ole audio monitor. It, too, can pick up the slightest sounds and has little to no reception issues. Pete had the idea to snatch it from her room, turn the volume down on the fancy monitor just for video and have excellent audio on the old one. Worked like a charm.

Around midnight I turned out the light with my back to the video monitor. But every little move he made drove me nuts, so I finally faced the monitor to watch him... and watch and watch and listen and watch. And get up and look at him and feel if he was breathing. Soon after that he started rooting around. I got up again (about 1:45 now), got a bottle and fed him. An hour later he was asleep again.... I wasn't.

To make this short, I didn't get to sleep until 4:30. At that point, he was awake again and I just brought him back in our room to sleep. And I soundly told Pete this morning that we were not going to do this again - at least until he's sleeping longer through the night.

I think I got a total of 2 hours sleep. YAWN!

First bath

Now that Christopher's belly button has healed, he got his first real bath today. So far he's been getting sponge baths and does not like them at all. "It's so cold, Mommy!" Good thing it doesn't take much time to wash him. ;)

I filled up the baby tub with nice warm water and plopped him in. His expression seemed to say, "Hmmmm, this is interesting. I *might* like this." He wiggled around while I soaped him up. All was well until I wet his hair. "Eeek! I don't like that!" Hehe. ;) He didn't fuss too much, and he'll like it better when he gets used to it.

3.5 weeks

Christopher's belly button fell out. That sounds strange, doesn't it? Shouldn't it be "the rest of the cord fell out?" Oh well, as it is, he now has a real belly button. :)

We're still trying to get used to having this extra person in the house. Adding him into the routines is a challenge.

He's gained yet another pound (now 8lb 3oz) and is growing like a weed. He has graduated to the size 1 diapers and is starting to hold his head up. :)

He went to the doctor last week because of a low-grade fever and a suspicion of a urinary tract infection. It was the most horrible experience both he and I had to endure. They inserted a catheter (actually, two catheters - the first one didn't get anything) to retrieve some urine for tests - I *never* want to go through that again! The good news is that he doesn't have a UTI. It was just coincidence that he would cry and have a wet diaper. He goes back next week for his one month check up. I think he'll be getting a shot (or shots).... :(

Sleepy Boy

If you know babies, you know that they sleep... a lot! Christopher is no exception. Oh sure, he has moments of wakefulness - like at 3:00 in the morning (yawn!), but it seems lately that I can only get pictures of him when he's asleep.

Update

Christopher went for his first official doctor's visit yesterday. He now weighs 7lbs 3.5 oz (up from 6 lbs 5 oz when we left the hospital), and got his heel stuck for the mandatory PKU test. He did not like that at all - it was so sad. :(

Dr. Levin says he is perfect - like I didn't know that ;) - and everything looks great. We go back in 3 weeks.

Other than that, he's a typical baby - an eating, pooping and sleeping machine. He's the sweetest thing, too. Hardly cries and makes the cutest noises. Oh, and he loves to snuggle. :D

Here are some pictures.

Christopher is here!

Christopher Locke Haddin was born July 1st at 1:25 am. He weighed 6lbs. 12oz. and was 19.25 inches long!

My water broke Thursday night and after 4 hours of labor, there he was! It was amazing! And no trip to the NICU! Hooray! He is perfect!

Here are some pictures Uncle Phillip took. More to come!
