What's new in Sarah's world?

Sharing
After we got home yesterday Sarah and I were having a snack. She had peanut butter and I had some pretzels. Well, of course she wanted what I had... no, she didn't want me to go get her some, she wanted mine. She kept saying they were hers and demanded that I hand them over. I tried to explain that they were Mommy's, but she was having none of that. So I gave her some. This made her evern angrier. She wanted them ALL and she wanted them NOW! "No, Mommy! My petzels!"

Sarah likes to eat her snacks out of Pyrex custard bowls. They're just her size. I had my pretzels in one - so she thought that they were meant for her. Fortunately I had two bowls. I put the pretzels I gave her in the second bowl and said, "These are Sarah's pretzels. These are Mommy's pretzels." She looked back and forth between the two and then nodded in agreement. And while we munched on our tasty snacks, she kept reminding me whose were whose... just in case I forgot. ;)

New picture - Easter! Enjoy.

Bad Dreams
At about 10:30 last night I had just drifted off to sleep. The faint tickling of a dream was beginning to form when I hear a little girl crying in her room. I lay there for a moment hoping that Daddy will get up to see what's wrong - he doesn't move. I gave him a little kick - he grunted: "I'm sleeping." Grrrrr!

Up I get in a huff. Not because Sarah is awake, but because I was sleeping, too. Humph. Anyway, I excavated the layer of cats off me, went to her room, gave her some kisses and pats on her head; adjusted the blanket and baby dolls, and made sure she had juice. She's still whining. "What's wrong, baby? What do you want?" She rubs the tears away and says, "I want my daddy." I smiled.

I walked back into our room, got back into bed and said, "She wants you" as smugly as I could. I hear a heavy sigh. He doesn't want to get up. But from across the hall we hear "Daddy! Daddy! My daddy!" So up he gets and comes back about 10 seconds later. Of course, she starts to cry again. Alas, he rises from the warmth of the comfy bed to console our daughter and chase away the monsters. I don't know how long he was gone this time because I went back to sleep.

We had a fun and busy weekend. Saturday we went to the art show at Linn Park downtown. We ran into Kim, Brian & a sleeping Baby Eliot. We looked at lots and lots of art; and I saw lots and lots of art that I wanted, but Daddy said "no." Heh. When we got home, Sarah played in the sprinkler.

Saturday night the three of us went to the Outreach Abroad fundraiser. Aunt Leslie is a participant and just came back from Peru not too long ago. She really loves the experience and she has excellent stories to tell! She and Uncle Burt will be going back to Belize next month. Sarah enjoyed herself tremedously at the fundraiser. She got to meet several new people and charmed them all with her smile. She really knows how to work a room! We were joined by Grandpa and his new friend, Denise. She is very nice.

Sunday Sarah immediately wanted to play outside. While Daddy pulled up even more weeds, she and I raced down the driveway - again and again and again. She won every time! She is a fast runner. ;) Later, Daddy went to help Phillip hang some sheet rock, so Sarah and I went shopping. Sarah got a new backpack, a swim suit (going to the beach!), and some clothes.

She sat on the potty numerous times during the weekend, but no success. I think she just wanted a cookie. ;)

We went to Surin tonight for dinner - Sarah was in a great mood. She had soy beans, rice and a little bit of Thai noodles. She behaved herself very well at a place we've not been as a family for quite some time.

When we got home it was time to put on jammies. Her diaper was relatively dry so I suggested that she sit on the potty - she agreed. With just the aid of running water we had potty success once again! She was very excited and was rewarded with a "cookie" immediately. What a big girl!

Enough to melt your heart
When I picked Sarah up at school yesterday, she was trying desperately to get Brianna's mom to pick her up - "Down, Mommy. Down!" (This actually means pick me up - she hasn't quite gotten those two prepositions sorted out.) As I was walking down the steps I said, "Who are you calling Mommy?" She looked up at me, gave this HUGE smile and yelled "MOMMY!" She practically jumped in my arms, gave me tons of hugs and kisses and announced to everyone that I was "Sarah's mommy!" She was so happy to see me - my heart melted. There's nothing else in the world like it. :)

Great weekend

We had a great weekend. Saturday we went to Sam's - Sarah loves to go shopping. We tasted all the food samples, talked about beds (she was very interested in the mattresses), and drooled all the way through the snack aisles. And, of course, she flirted with everyone who looked at her. She's such a ham!

Sunday - what a beautiful day! Sarah helped Daddy dig up weeds in the yard, even "pushing" the wheelbarrow when it was full. Quite a sight. Her toes were hardly touching the ground as they both hauled the weeds to the curb. I should have gotten the camera - doh! Then she helped me harvest some herbs and hang them to dry. She did get in trouble a few times for leaving the yard or approaching the street - the idea of a fence in the front yard is sounding better and better. I wish we had sidewalks in our neighborhood. I also wish that our street weren't as busy as it is - granted it's not a main thoroughfare, but there are enough cars coming by (speeding, no less) that I really worry. More gray hairs? *sigh*

Sarah bit Brianna at school Tuesday. I was so excited about the potty incident yesterday that I forgot to mention this. Obviously her ill mood carried over into school time that morning. We talked about biting, that it wasn't nice. She looked up at me and said "Nice." Hmm. I rethought my words here. "Okay," I said, "biting is mean." "Mean," she repeated. That evening, we told Daddy what happened. She looked up at him and said "Biting is bad, Daddy!" in a growly sort of voice. "No bite! Mean!" Hey! She does listen to me! ;)

Yesterday afternoon we stopped at the Pig (grocery store) - we were in dire need of certain staples. I attempted this the day before (the horrible Tuesday), but as soon as I pulled into the parking lot she whined "Home, Mommy. No store." I chalked it up to her not feeling good (stuffy nose, et al.) so we went home. However, she did it again yesterday. I told her we needed to go to the store! The fit insued. I carried her into the drug store and she perked up when she saw the left over Easter toys. Of course she wanted everything toys, candy, a suntan lotion bottle with a Dexter keychain. Oy! All was well until we went into the Pig - fell out and cryed (and my hands were full). A man helped us with a buggy and asked "She's two, isn't she?" Heh. She was fine as soon as her butt hit the seat. As I put items into the cart she named them: nunun (onion), juice, soup, noodles, etc. Silly child. ;)

This morning she was in a great mood! Of course, she decided to wake us up at 4:30 a.m. (groan). She's had a stuffy nose for a couple of days - I suppose the medicine I gave her last night had worn off. She was WIDE awake and ready for t-butter (peanut butter). Maybe she'll sleep late this weekend - hey, I can dream, right?

Wonder of Wonders

Guess who tee-teed in the potty!! All it took was a little patience and some warm water ;). She looked a little surprised when it happened and got to see Mommy do the happy danceā„¢ and got lots of hugs and kisses. And when Daddy came home the celebration continued. An hour later, she *wanted* to go potty again, but nothing doing (as Alan would say). That's okay - she did great and was very pleased with herself. Let's just hope she has grasped the concept. What a big girl!

In other news: Sarah is a very musical kid. She loves to dance, play instruments, and sing. For the past two days she's been stuck on "Pop Goes the Weasle" and "Happy Birthday to You." She'll start out humming the tune or mumbling what she thinks are the words and then blast "Pop goes the weasle!" If it's the birthday song, she insists that you join her (of course) - "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you," she blows out the "candles," claps and says "Yayaya!" She definitely takes after me in this department. ;)

"Ring Around the Rosey" is another favorite. "Come on Mommy. Wosey! Wosey! Daddy, wosey!" So round and round we go... again and again and again... whew!

Monday, Monday?

Imagine a small child waking you up at 5:30 a.m. to help her put on her sandals. Imagine this small child wanting nothing but peanut butter for breakfast. Imagine this small child only wanting to wear said sandals even though it's 43 degrees outside. Then imagine the small child not wanting to wear a jacket - and it's still 43 degrees. You watch helplessly as said child throws crying fits and falls out on the floor. You can feel the blood vessels on the verge of bursting at the frustration you are both experiencing -- you have entered the Toddler Zone!

Yes, it was the typical Monday, but on a Tuesday!! Well, it did start last night, so you can say Monday carried over. It started when I picked her up at school yesterday afternoon until she sacked out... and she had such a good time at the dentist, too - go figure. She had a rough time going to bed last night - wanting Mommy, then Daddy, then Mommy, etc. Finally she got up from bed, grabbed "Fox in Socks" and fell asleep "reading" her book. Too cute. Whew!

This morning she definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It was a fight from the moment she brought in her sandals to us at 5:30 until I dropped her off at school. Of course, when she got to school she didn't want me to go.

One thing that makes up for all this hoo-ha.... she finally said "I lub you, Mommy."

First things first...

Surprise! I finally jumped on the band-wagon and created the first blog for Sarah's new web site - isn't it amazing?

This past weekend was full of "firsts" for Sarah.

Saturday we decided to plant our veggies and herbs. While Daddy was weeding the garden, Sarah was watering the dirt... and her pants.. and her shoes... *sigh* Mommy to the rescue! I managed to get her in her bathing suit, hooked up the sprinkler and voila! Instant fun! She had a blast!

Sunday - first Easter egg hunt (at home). It was raining so it was inside. She had a great time finding the eggs and immediately eating their contents as soon as she got her hands on them. Nothing like chowing down on a ton of chocolate at 7:30 in the morning - heh. She got to brush her teeth twice that morning.

Speaking of teeth - today was her very first visit to the dentist! She was great - no crying or fussing! She let them brush her teeth with a regular brush and that round "polishing" brush everyone hates. And zero cavities (good thing after all that candy)! She got to pick three toys from the treasure chest. What a good girl! Let's hope all dentist visits are like this one!
